I did a short interview for Ian Shepherd at UglyBaby.

Recently I teamed up with Francesca Bolognini, type design’s rising humanist, to create Frank, a new typeface available in five weights, with true italics and Cyrillic.

After spending so many years gaining insight and sensitivity toward the needs of modern business, it was time I designed a typeface to do the job that I felt DIN was doing with stubborn insensitivity. With this in mind the family was conceived to accurately communicate care, order and ability.

It includes full support for Russian, Eastern European, Turkish, Welsh and Baltic languages. The complete specimen and font family are available for download from www.newlyn.com/type.

Stage one of a major refresh for the worlds most successful media business, Sky, and a sweet little boutique job – Max Chocolatier – tasty business!

Recent additions to newlyn.com include a new identity for the UK’s largest bank, and a logotype for an ultra exclusive watercraft manufacturer from Serbia.

A new logo for Europe’s largets dairy, launched alongside their new 5 year strategy and ‘Closer to Nature’ brand.

I’ve been a long time without a website and now I’m very happy to launch newlyn.com. The site has been designed by Gabi Toth, who I think has done a superb job.

It’s also the first time most people will have seen the NEWLYN logo, created with a typeface I designed for my private stationery.

In addition to the work showcase, newlyn.com has a type shop. This is where I will sell my large back catalogue of typefaces, many of which have never been available before. I will also be adding new typefaces.
It is properly interesting to be launching a new business in the current economic situation. The financial depression is not necessarily human depression.

Uncertainty is a great inspiration. It forces us to take a more critical view of what we are doing, saying and believing.

The cracks that have begun to show in capitalism spell doom and gloom for some, but for me and I hope many others this is the time to put into practice many of the thoughts and ideas that the previous status quo found too challenging.

The next thing is something WE will make. Our time has come; creativity and insight are properly prepared for this. It’s exciting.
