New Farm began as a design for a client who’d asked for a typeface that was upbeat, relaxed, simple, and unsophisticated. One idea was to try something that looked handwritten with simple, lively forms.
The key to refining this design was to determine, through careful testing, how much bounce we should inject into its forms. Springy stems, rounded terminals, wide proportions, and raindrop-shaped counters cohabit within a typewriter-monospaced look. A funky, carefree design, New Farm was tempered slightly so that its letters could form a regular rhythm without distracting extras.
