Our purpose

We make licensing as simple as possible—both the decision to license and the day-to-day experience of using our fonts. Our aim is to minimize friction so that, two years from now, when marketing needs to deploy a font and legal reviews compliance, the process is clear, efficient, and low-effort.

Clarity & compliance

Easily audited
Our all-inclusive license is simple to audit. It is company-wide, covers all media, and requires no usage metrics or per-seat counts.

GDPR
Recent GDPR decisions in Europe have found that serving webfonts from Google and Adobe can unlawfully disclose visitors’ IP addresses to those providers without consent, creating compliance risk. The fix is simple: Newlyn’s universal licence permits self-hosting across your properties, removing this risk and keeping both data and typography under your control.

Provenance statements
We operate formal IP-compliance procedures. Our fonts are original works (no use of open-source data). We can supply proof-of-ownership documentation. In 30 years of designing for leading brands, we’ve received zero IP complaints.

Global rights
No geographic restrictions—worldwide use included.

Who is covered

  • Licensee entity: Coverage applies to the named company on the invoice.

  • Subsidiaries/affiliates/brands: Not automatically included; we can add them via a quick add-on.

  • Domains: Licensed for the domains specified on the invoice; adding new domains is straightforward.

  • External agencies are not covered. We have a license addendum that can be added to cover these.

Agencies, suppliers & handover

The client organisation should hold the font licence from the outset. A licence held by an agency does not give the client rights under it unless the agreement expressly provides otherwise.

Before work begins, the agency contract or purchase order should establish:

  • Which organisation is the legal licensee

  • Which agencies, freelancers and suppliers require access

  • How font files will be supplied and controlled

  • Which party is responsible for fonts introduced during the project

  • Whether third-party access ends when the engagement ends

  • Who retains the licence agreement, invoices and proof of purchase

Newlyn licences do not automatically cover external agencies. Where access is required, we can add an appropriate licence addendum so that approved third parties can work with the fonts on behalf of the licensee.

The licence agreement, invoices and record of approved third-party access should be kept centrally and referenced in brand guidelines and project handover documentation. This prevents future teams from having to reconstruct the licensing position from emails or assumptions.

Business size & renewal mechanics

  • What counts: Total headcount of your organization, including employees, consultants, contractors, freelancers, and temporary workers.

  • When measured: Reported at order; for Annual licenses, reconfirmed before each new license year. If your headcount has grown, fees adjust for the next term.

  • Annual reminders: We email you 30 days before renewal. You can continue or end the subscription.

  • Notice to terminate (Annual): Provide 60 days’ notice before the end of the current term.

  • Accuracy matters: Material under-reporting can void the license; if something drifts, we correct it cooperatively going forward.

Predictable ownership

Perpetual control
Fonts are strategic brand assets. A Perpetual Newlyn license means your right to use does not expire; you hold the files to install, self-host, and archive, ensuring version stability across apps, servers, and builds. This supports standard IT governance—backups, disaster recovery, offline deployment, and long-term legal records—and avoids SaaS lock-in or availability risk.

Annual option
Prefer flexibility? Choose Annual and keep budgeting simple with a renewal reminder 30 days before expiry.

Operations & support

Central account
Every license includes an online account with your font files, license certificate, invoices, and proof of purchase. This central record reduces admin friction and makes audits or renewals straightforward—no chasing documents across teams or inboxes.

All weights included
Because your license covers the full family, teams don’t need to track which weights are licensed—templates stay compliant.

Support & maintenance
If you find a fault in any of our fonts, we’ll fix it.

Fairness & flexibility

We provide clarity and fairness. With rising compliance and litigation risks, we don’t pursue punitive retroactive claims for good-faith usage. If something slips out of scope, we resolve it with a fair, forward-looking adjustment. We can also provide bespoke terms where your procurement process requires it.

M&A, divestiture & rebrand

Licenses are non-transferable without consent. If you’re acquired, spin out a unit, or rebrand/change domains, contact us and we’ll update or reissue the license to reflect the new structure. The process is lightweight and designed for continuity.

Our License is governed by the laws of England & Wales.
